Sleep Tight

Sleep is a gift from God that heals all kinds of physical, emotional, and mental problems.  We all know it’s good for us, but sometimes we forget just how good it is for us.

Summer is a time when you’d think that sleep would be easy, but it’s not.  A lot of kids woke up exhausted this morning on the 5th of July.  Fireworks, soda, hotdogs, chips, running, playing, bruises, and total exhaustion all culminated last night.

So, here are some good reminders about how to get more sleep this week.  Click here if you are interested.

  1. Tired of your teenager complaining that they just don’t need that much sleep? Pull a little prank/experiment on them. This summer I am allowing my almost 14 year old to stay up until midnight each night. (He has no morning activities). I got the mom of the year award for that one until I told him yesterday exactly WHY I was doing this.

You see, rather than telling a teen the amount of sleep they need (I mean, they do know everything right?) just PROVE IT. For 3 weeks after going to bed at midnight, my son was sleeping until 10:00 almost every morning. Apparently he needs 10 hours of sleep. “So, when do you need to go to bed during the school year son?”……….dramatic pause…………..”Uhhhh, 8:00”. POINT MADE and lots of fun had by all:)

***By the way, I don’t think this works with kids that just don’t sleep in. The experiment wouldn’t have worked if he continued to wake up at 7:00 am despite going to bed at midnight. That’s a recipe for distaster!
